Notes from the March Meeting

Jim Campos demonstrates the use of various reels at the March club meeting

We had a nice turnout for the March meeting.

  1. Prez Joe presented the final club banner which looks pretty nice.
  2. We unveiled the new membership dues plan; everyone will be due in January; we'll pro-rate new memberships and renewals for partial years. We'll notify you (once we get membership details from our treasurer) of your dues for the rest of this year.
  3. Prof. Velie handed out a "dive quiz" that resulted in some valuable prizes for several well-educated divers.
  4. Terry Ostby reported on his experiences with the "DIR Essentials" class.
  5. Prof. Velie explained "Dalton's Diamond" for calculation of O2 mixtures.
  6. Our cave divers (Jim Campos, John Martin, and John Preston) described reels, spools, and line-laying techniques. It was an educational time and entertaining too: how often can you watch grown men tie string to chairs and follow the lines around with their eyes closed?

April Meeting Agenda

  1. Wayne Holm will present details of DAN courses that he will be teaching through MDC Sports.
  2. Roger Southwick will present a brief slideshow of photos from Cozumel.

Lake Ice Information

Wanna know which lakes are now free of ice? Or just interested in what happens when ice melts off the lakes? Check out these links. (I couldn't find info for Wisconsin or Wazee - if anyone finds a link, send email to Roger.)

Cozumel

photos by Roger Southwick

Some of us found brand-new digital cameras floating on the surface (Meb) while others had their cameras break during a cavern dive (me). But it sure was fun! Here are a few pictures. Come to the April club meeting to see more.
